Sign up for the online preparation course material

This section informs you how to get the materials you need to prepare for the test as well as obtain your “Certificate of Completion”, which is required to get licensed by the state.

Approximate time: 30 minutes to sign up, 4-5 business days to receive the Certificate.

1. Call Able Incorporated to sign up for the online course at 800 586-2253. Tell them the license you will be applying for (the title above) and that you are affiliated with World Financial Group. You will have to pay $125 via credit card. Shortly after the phone call, they will email you study materials in pdf format and instructions to a web site where you can take practice quizzes for each chapter in the study materials and full practice exams.

2. As soon as you receive the email, follow the instructions in that email to complete the online form. The URL is in the email but here it is: http://www.onlineceschools.com/form.html.

You'll need to enter your unique Product Code included in the email. Cut & Paste it, it's too long to type

3. A few days after filling in the form (#2 above), you should receive via US Mail, the certificate of completion for the course from Educo. Make sure you keep this handy. You will need this in the next steps.

Apply For Insurance License and Authorize Insurance Test

This section describes the steps necessary to Apply For Your License and become authorized to schedule your Insurance exam. Paperwork, bureaucracy, and the US Mail contribute to this process taking a little time, so get it underway so you have everything necessary to schedule your test

Approximate time: 30 minutes to complete the license application, 2 hours to get fingerprinted (90% of this time is travel to and from the center), 10 minutes to mail Certificate of Completion and fingerprints to support application, about 15 business days for the state to process your application once they have all the information

1. Start by going to Florida's Department of Financial Services Site and filling out their online form. Here you will pay the $111.00 fee (plus $4.95 tax) with a credit card. Here is the link: https://aalf.fldfs.com/common/com_index.asp

2. During the form you're filling out in step #1, you will be alerted that you need to go to the Florida Site for Fingerprint Testing. You can do that after you complete step #1. There are actually 2 Fingerprint sites, one for South Florida counties and another for the rest of the state. Here are both of them:

http://www.fldfsprints.com/ -(Broward, Duval, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, Escambia and Santa Rosa counties ONLY, as well as non-residents of Florida)

http://www.flprints.com/    (all other counties in Florida)

Here you will pay a fee of about $64 for fingerprint testing. Once you pay the fee, you then must physically visit one of the Fingerprinting locations to have your fingerprints taken. The locations are provided on the receipt page of the payment form. You have to pay in advance.

3. Once you've done steps 1 & 2 online, AND have your fingerprints taken, you are ready to mail all the necessary information to complete the Florida Insurance application and be capable of scheduling your exam.

Mail the fingerprint card, your certificate of course completion (that should have arrived in the mail), and the "Step 7 Summary" printed during step 1 above. The "Step 7 Summary" provides all the mailing instructions. Note: if the fingerprints are scanned electronically, and they are in most areas (call the center you plan to go to), you can immediately mail the other materials back to the state along with the "receipt" from step 2, simply indicate fingerprints were taken electronically.

Note, you should also check online at the site where you filled out the application to see if there is status.  You may or may not receive a status update in the US mail.

Prepare for your Exam, Schedule it and Take it and Pass it!

This section offers some suggestions on covering the study material and the instructions for scheduling your exam.

Approximate times: 40 hours of exam preparation including reading, taking quizzes and practice exams.  15 minutes to schedule your exam, 2 hours 30 minutes to take your exam

1. Prepare - All the while, you are accomplishing the administration, you can be preparing for the exam by studying the materials and taking the practice quizzes and exams. This is a 40 hour course. Be prepared to allocate 40 hours to read, study and take practice exams. You will quickly see that you cannot pass the quizzes and exam without becoming pretty familiar with the concepts and terminology. However, you will be likely be familiar with many of the concepts and if so, find you can be prepared for the exam in less time. The online course and quizzes make it a lot easier.

2. The Department of Financial Services will send an authorization letter the day your application is approved. However, you may check the Department’s website at https://secure.fldfs.com/openauth_alis/ to see if you have been authorized. Once you've determined you are approved, you're eligible to schedule your test. Do this by calling Promissor Customer Service at 888 274-2020 (Option 6 gets you to a live Rep to schedule) or if you want to schedule it over the web, go to their website: http://www.promissor.com/.  Promissor is a private company that administers the tests. The test must be taken at a Promissor location. There is information on their website for locations and other items of interest.

3. Take the exam when the material is fresh in your mind.  The actual exam has some tricks in the way questions are phrased such as reversing concepts, using positives and negatives in the question.

In our opinion, the information in the online study course doesn’t appear to cover every detail that shows up on the exam, so expect there will be questions that you simply have never seen or been asked in any of the material.  But don’t worry, 95% is, so you’ll be fine. We think the course material is focused on preparing you to pass, not to necessarily get 100%.

Don’t forget to look good for the exam.  If you pass, they take your picture for your license right after the test.  So, it makes sense to look professional.
